Viagra and Cialis ED Pill Lawsuits

Viagra, Cialis and Levitra erectile dysfunction drugs have become an integral part of American culture and many men’s lives over the last 20 years. However, what TV ad disclaimers don’t say is that thousands of men have suffered seriously harmful side effects from taking ED drugs.

The Driscoll Firm, LLC, is investigating cases of melanoma (skin cancer) among men who take Viagra. A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2014 found that men who used the erection-enhancing drug sildenafil (Viagra) were 84 percent more likely to develop melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

Pfizer, the manufacturer that has made billions of dollars from Viagra sales, has failed to warn users of the potential to develop melanoma. Our attorneys are working to determine whether Pfizer should be held legally liable for producing a defective and dangerous medical product.

If you have taken Viagra and/or other erectile dysfunction pills and have been diagnosed with melanoma, contact The Driscoll Firm today for a free and absolutely confidential consultation about your legal options. You may be able to obtain compensation for your medical expenses and other losses.

Viagra, Cialis and Levitra ED Drug Side Effects

At this point, the potential for ED drugs, particularly Viagra (sildenafil) and Cialis (tadalafil), to increase the risk of developing melanoma is one of the biggest medical concerns for users of erectile dysfunction drugs.

Authors of the Harvard study published by JAMA Internal Medicine said “recent” Viagra users had a “significantly elevated risk of invasive melanoma.” Those who had ever once used Viagra were found to have a “higher risk” of melanoma.

In March 2016, an additional study published in the cancer journal Cell Reports cited a link between sildenafil use and an increased risk of melanoma.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation:

If melanoma is recognized and treated early, it is almost always curable, but if it is not, the cancer can advance and spread to other parts of the body, where it becomes hard to treat and can be fatal. While it is not the most common of the skin cancers, it causes the most deaths.

In addition, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned of potential links between the use of ED drugs and:

  • Sudden loss of vision in one eye, impaired color perception or blurred vision
  • Sudden loss of hearing, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) or dizziness
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure, which may lead to heart attack, stroke or fainting and falling
  • Priapism (erections that last for excessive periods, i.e., “more than four hours”)

ED Drug Lawsuits

Men and the loved ones of men who have used Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and been injured are pursuing product liability lawsuits against the ED drugs’ manufacturers and others. These lawsuits demand compensation for plaintiffs’ injuries because the manufacturer, doctor, dispensing pharmacy and/or others failed to provide adequate warnings about potentially dangerous side effects caused by use of the drugs.

In April 2016, the U.S. District Panel on Multidistrict Litigation combined multiple lawsuits against Viagra manufacturer Pfizer over cases of melanoma as multi-district litigation (MDL), which allows them to move forward as one.

In September 2016, several plaintiffs with lawsuits against Cialis maker Eli Lilly and Co. asked the judge presiding over the Viagra MDL to permit all plaintiffs suing Eli Lilly to join that case. Cialis users suing Eli Lilly say that, though Cialis is a different drug (tadalafil) from Viagra (sildenafil), it works the same and has injured them in the same way.

The Driscoll Firm Lawyers Can Help Injured ED Drug Users

If you have used Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil) and/or Levitra (vardenafil) as erectile dysfunction therapy and have since been diagnosed with melanoma, The Driscoll Firm wants to help you. We also want to speak to the loved ones of men who have lost their battle with skin cancer if they were ED drug users.

There may be opportunities to join the Viagra MDL or pursue an independent product liability lawsuit to recover compensation for your medical expenses, pain, suffering, and other losses.

It is likely that eventually Pfizer, Eli Lilly and/or potentially Levitra manufacturer GlaxoSmithKlein and Bayer Pharmaceuticals will offer to settle claims over the undisclosed dangers of their ED drugs. Many large corporations, in fact, set aside large funds as soon as the first product liability lawsuits are filed in anticipation of eventually having to settle and pay the injured.

Once a settlement is negotiated and approved by the courts, The Driscoll Firm will be able to advise you about the terms of any offer and/or negotiated settlement, and the options available to you. There are pros and cons to any settlement plan, and the decision of whether to accept will be yours alone to make. In your case, an independent lawsuit may provide the best possible outcome for you and your family.
