Three More Women File Yaz, Yasmin & Ocella Injury Lawsuits

Three more women have filed product liability lawsuits against Bayer Healthcare, Barr Laboratories, Inc., Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. and the McKesson Corporation after suffering serious Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella side effects. They join thousands of other women who allege that these fourth-generation birth control products can lead to a dangerous condition known as hyperkalemia.

Yaz, Yasmin & Ocella Side Effects

Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella, considered the “fourth generation” of birth control, are oral contraceptives which contain progestin drospirenone (drsp) – a diuretic which may elevate potassium in the bloodstream to dangerous levels. That can lead to a condition known as hyperkalemia, which can disrupt heart rhythms and slow the flow of blood throughout the entire body and result in pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, other blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, kidney damage, gallbladder damage, abnormal heartbeat and death. Sadly, many young women have suffered from these side effects and have sued the manufacturers.

The Latest Contraceptive Injury Lawsuits

The latest contraceptive injury lawsuits were filed in December 2012 by three women who suffered serious Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella injuries. Two of the women claim to have suffered a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) – a blood clot that forms in a vein deep in the body (usually in the lower leg or thigh). The third suffered a pulmonary embolism – a blockage of the main artery of the lung or one of its branches by a substance that has traveled from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream.

The women allege that Bayer Healthcare (which manufactures Yaz and Yasmin), Barr Laboratories (which manufactures Ocella), Teva Pharmaceuticals USA (which manufacturers a copycat version of Yaz) and the McKesson Corporation (a distributor) were in violation of civil, business and professional codes; engaged in fraud, negligent misrepresentation and concealment; breached express and implied warranties; were negligent in their failure to warn of known manufacturing defects; and are strictly liable under tort law. They seek compensatory and punitive damages.
