FDA Recall

As more is learned about the dangers of NuvaRing birth control ring, pressure is mounting to have the product taken off the market.

To date, however, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration – despite a growing body of evidence linking NuvaRing to an increased risk of blood clots, strokes, heart attacks and death – has not issued a recall of the popular contraceptive.

This is so despite public pleas from consumer safety groups like Public Citizen for an immediate NuvaRing FDA recall.

NuvaRing Dangers and Deaths

Reported NuvaRing side effects include headache, nausea, vaginitis, and thick vaginal discharge. There have also been reports of urinary tract infections, irritation during sexual intercourse, and accidental expulsion of the ring. These side effects are usually minor and treatable.

Far more alarming is a BMJ study that found women who use NuvaRing have a significantly higher risk of venous thrombosis than women using other contraceptives.

And the FDA has released its own findings that link NuvaRing with a higher rate – close to 50 percent higher – of potentially lethal blood clots than birth control pills containing different hormones.

The most serious consequences of blood clots include:

  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), also known as deep venous thrombosis;
  • Pulmonary embolism (PE);
  • Heart attacks and arterial thrombotic events (ATE);
  • Ischemic stroke;
  • Death.

NuvaRing Litigation Is On The Rise

Approximately 1,000 complaints have been reported to the FDA of injuries suffered by NuvaRing users such as strokes, heart attacks, lung clots, pulmonary embolisms, painful swelling of the legs and arms, kidney damage and severe headaches.

At least 40 women have died using NuvaRing, according to a CBS News report.

Because there has been no NuvaRing FDA recall, hundreds of women and families whose lives have been disrupted by NuvaRing use have filed individual lawsuits seeking financial compensation.

A NuvaRing injury lawyer can help you recover damages for:

  • Doctor bills
  • Hospital bills
  • Nursing care
  • Prescription drug bills
  • Pain and suffering
  • Lost income
  • Physical rehabilitation costs
  • Wrongful death

Despite the life-threatening risks associated with NuvaRing, some in the medical community believe it is a viable alternative for women who cannot or would rather not take birth control pills.

Even so, NuvaRing victims have a right to bring a lawsuit for personal injury or wrongful death. This right is not diminished by the lack of a NuvaRing FDA recall.

Across the nation, people are bringing lawsuits against Merck, Organon and the other big corporations responsible for bringing NuvaRing to the market.
